Kulm Hotel St. Moritz

Perched near Lake St. Moritz and the Corviglia funicular, the Kulm Hotel St. Moritz (founded 1856) is not only one of Switzerland’s earliest luxury retreats but also the birthplace of Alpine winter tourism, thanks to the daring bet placed by founder Johannes Badrutt. Its interiors reflect a mix of 19th-century grandeur - marble pillars, chandeliers, and rich red velvet - with modern comforts, all while memorizing its vibrant sporting legacy, including Winter Olympic associations and the nearby Olympia Bob Run. The hotel is undergoing an ambitious CHF 125 million renovation beginning in 2025, led by architect Norman Foster, aiming to marry modern design with preservation of its heritage spirit. Kulm Hotel remains a historic stronghold of elegance, evolving gracefully to match contemporary expectations while retaining its alpine soul.
