Visiting the Burgundy region (or Bourgogne) is the chance of straying from the main drag and discovering the legendary Grand Crus and the lesser-known side of this lovely and so picturesque French region. Synonymous with wine for so many travellers (its winemaking tradition dates at least to the second century AD), with traditional “Old World” producers and a whole new wave of winemakers too, the fact is that Burgundy goes way beyond its terroir. Lovely small villages such as Auxerre, Chablis, Vézelay, Gevrey-Chambertin and Beaune can make a truly unforgettable journey. Think of amazing abbeys, gorgeous old towns, beautiful nature parks, delicious restaurants, neverending vineyards and lovely tastings of the French countryside. Be prepared to fall in love.
