Located on the very bottom of the map of France, and neighboring the Provence, the beautiful region of Occitanie has Roman footprints, bucolic wine routes and a festive spirit - including an awarded annual Jazz Festival every summer. The lovely medieval towns of Nîmes, Toulouse and Narbonne are truly a must. Smaller locations, such as the seaside village of Gruissan, are equally adorable. One can spend the days sleeping in gorgeous châteaux, cycling along the canals and vineyards, exploring local artisan shops and local markets (Les Halles, in Narbonne, is outstanding) and, of course, tasting delicious restaurants gathering around tables for platters of extremely fresh sea food and beef tartares. During summer travellers can even dine a la plage at some resorts' beach clubs. But be sure to save extra time to enjoy the lovely wine routes of Languedoc, one of the fastest-growing wine regions in France, and join some exclusive tastings along the road. Languedoc is the world's biggest producer of AOC rosé wines; but, honestly, its winemakers are usually great producing many different wines that will match perfectly to your preferences.
